As reported by Chartwell: If you know your royal flush from your full house, or your straight flush from your three of a kind, then sitting in front of the computer competing in the online College Poker Championships could be the ideal way to spend a Sunday evening.
The American competition is searching for the world’s best university poker player, with weekly cash prizes and $40,000 for the winner.
Since online poker first starting tempting punters two years ago, the industry rakes in over £1 million per day. However, the difference with the College Poker Championships is that entry is completely free.
The competition is a Texas Hold ‘em No Limit format played at RoyalVegasPoker.com, the competition’s sponsor. They have provided the chance to win cash scholarships out of the $100,000 fund, as well as one of ten all expenses paid holiday to Cancun in Mexico for the Grand Final in March. Players who finish between 11th and 80th will share $15,500, whilst the ten top players will share $94,500. At the final, $10,000 will also be donated to charity.
Last year’s winner received his cash scholarship and was also able to donate money to a charity that helps students pay for their schooling.
Reaching the grand final may seem unlikely but poker enthusiasts have nothing to lose by playing. The tournament is completely free to enter and players never have to make a purchase because all games are played with ‘virtual chips’. |
